A woman, said to be jealouFLANGEs when her girl friend befriended a man, stabbed her friend to death and then tried to kill herself.
The 33-year-old attacker was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Sultanah Bahiyah Hospital in Alor Setar in critical condition after the Wednesday night incident. The victim, Suhana Mohd Shariff, 26, died after being admitted to the hospital.
A security guard found the women sprawled in a pool of blood close to each other behind the victim's car at the Crystal Light Industrial Park here at 10.30pm.
Both women worked at a stationery company at the Shahab Perdana Bus Complex in Alor Setar and had been close for more than five years.
Suhana was from Lorong Kenanga, Jalan Kota Tanah here while the suspect is from Kampung Seberang Nyonya here.
Suhana's mother, Zaharah Idrus, 60, said her daughter had befriended a man at the stationery company and had wanted to break off her ties with the suspect. The suspect was said to be jealous of the relationship.
"Suhana had also on several occasions told me she was having a problem but refused to tell us what it was," she said when met at the hospital's mortuary yesterday.
Kota Setar OCPD Assistant Comm Abdul Ghafar Rajab said Suhana was stabbed seven times on her chest and abdomen.
"The suspect has stab wounds on her body and a cut on her left wrist. The wounds are believed to be self-inflicted," he said.
He said initial investigations showed that both women had quarrelled inside the car at about 10pm and the suspect was believed to have run after Suhana.
"We found bloodstains on the driver's and the front passenger seats," he said.
